Dear Quilters:
The
Needle in a Haystack has always been a destination quilt shop. We are an
hour east of Wichita on 400 highway and that means we are often on the way to
other locations such as Branson, Lake of the Ozarks, or if going the other
way-Colorado, or maybe just a round about way to the doctor or your
grandchildren. Last summer was interesting as “techy
drivers” with their GPS’s tried to find the store. Sometimes the GPS gave
great co-ordinates and sometimes it didn’t. However, by this summer I figured all the correct info would be fed into those
systems-WRONG! I’ve been hearing of some strange things already. If
it’s been awhile since you’ve been to the store, remember we are not in the
town of

TEA TIME BLOCK OF THE MONTH
We are excited to announce the new HoneyBee Club's TeaTime block of
the month by Nancy Murty. We will
begin this program in July. The
Because of the 2 size options, your choice determines
the length of your program and the cost. Those interested in the throw size, your monthly
charge will be $20.95 (+$2.50 shipping) + tax, if applicable. Your
program will last 5 months. The larger bed size quilt will last 6 months and
your monthly charge will by $23.95 (+$2.50 shipping) + tax, if applicable.
You may begin early sign up NOW. Email needle@sktc.net to reserve your spot or
ask questions. These new BOM's have been
added to the web store so you may register that way as well, http://www.needlenahaystack.com . However, your card will not be charged
nor will your first block sent until July 2.
KIDS CLASSES
Kids Kamp 1
June 22,
23 & 24 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. $12 class + supplies
We will start from ground zero as far as
machine sewing and cutting skills are concerned. Students will make a pincushion
and pillow case. Limit of 4 students who have complete the 3 rd grade age or older. Supply
list is available at the shop; it also includes kit prices.
Kids Kamp 2
July 13,
15 & 16 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. $12 class + supplies
Students
should have some machine sewing experience or attended Kid’s Camp 1. In this
class it is possible to make 2 projects--Tea towel apron and a bag. Supply list
is available at the shop; it also includes kit prices. Limit
of 5 students who have complete the 3
rd grade
age or older. Supply list is available at the shop; it also includes kit
prices.
Kids Quilt
July
22, 23 & 24 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
$12 class + supplies
This camp is for students who attended previous
year’s kamps, have previous sewing experience or have
successfully completed Kamp1 & 2. In this class, students will create a
quilt from a pre-cut kit. Depending on their success rate they may have some homework during the week. Limit of 5
advanced students. Please make arrangements
to select kits early so kits can be prepared with your student in mind.
Supply list is available at the shop; it also
includes kit prices.
SCamp-Upper Level
July 15,
16, & 17 11:30 a.m. –1:30 p.m. $12 class + supplies
This camp is for
students who attended last year’s camps or have been sewing for some time. They
should be able to thread the machine and wind a bobbin on their own as well as
know about basic seams, etc. Students will make pajama pants. If time, some
students may even be able to start a coordinating top or easy tote bag. Limit
of 5 students who have previous sewing experience.
ADULT - TEEN CLASSES
Batik Diamonds
June 20
& 27 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. $20 class +
supplies
This class is a
great project for those beginners who are ready to tackle something besides
squares and rectangles. Using 7 background fat quarters and 7 dark fat
quarters, batiks work wonderfully!
Beginning Machine Applique
June
21 1: 30 – 4:30 p.m. $10 class + $8 kit
This basic
session will teach several basic appliqué techniques. You will create a small wallhanging from a kit especially designed for this class.
Beginner’s Quiltmaking
June 22,
29, July 6 & 13 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. $30 class + supplies
We will start
from the very beginning with a project that introduces a few basic blocks, sashing and borders. With a bit of homework on your part,
you should have a successful throw size quilt completed in a month.
X-Block Quilt
July 18
& 25 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. $20 class + supplies
Learn how to take
the basic nine patch or its elements and create something extraordinary. You
will have a choice of several quilt patterns based on the X-Block template for
your creation. Class 1 will focus on creating the blocks, while Class 2 will
deal with the borders. A nine patch never looked so good!
Vintage Tablerunner
July
26 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. $10 class + supplies
This “Spring
Bouquet Tablerunner” will light up any table. You’ll
learn how to fuse appliqué and rickrack in a project with minimal piecing. This
is a fun confident beginner project as well as for the more experience quilter.
There are a few dates open to Design Your
Own Class. If you
have a two friends, sisters or family members who want their own special class,
we will custom make a class, date and time just for you. Fun classes can
include making aprons, tote bags/purses, table runners or easy quilt patterns.

FABSHOP HOP - June 1 to 30 with over 100 sites
This is an internet fabric shop hop so let the FabShop
Hop Bunny guide you from site to site to hop and shop. Here are the steps to
make it easy to FabShop Hop:

THE LAST FEW
STITCHES:
We have tickets for three lovely
opportunity quilts from various guilds and organizations. A beautiful quilt of 30's
reproduction flowers is hanging in the center of our balcony. It was appliquéd by the
Chanute Sew N Sew Quilt Guild. There is a great sunflower opportunity quilt from the El
Dorado Quilt Guild, and wonderful batik quilt from another Chanute
organization. If
you're behind on quilt making, perhaps you will be lucky enough to win one of
these quilts.
Next
month promises to be a busy one. Besides classes, clubs, quilt shows and normal
